Automaton Dreams – The aspirations of a machine to break free and create art for itself.
With the growth of AI and the talk of artificial general intelligence (AGI), I can’t help but wonder what the fax machines and photocopies of long past might have created, had they the means to do so.
Hey there, Dj Cutman here. I rarely write posts in the first person but this release is particularly personal or me. At it’s core, its the exploration of themes and ideas not part of my usual modus operandi of video game cover songs. These are original compositions, products of many scattered hours over the past five years, pulled together and re-produced into what you hear before you.
This album is an exploration of lofi and chiptune-influenced house music, along with some mid-tempo analog beats and rhythms. Produced in Ableton Live with samples and sequences from my Akai MPC and Yamaha Reface keyboard.
This is my first original EP in many years, revisiting some songs I had written and produced and giving them a fresh mixdown and master. Many of these songs were special to me, but came out as singles and I felt didn’t have their time to shine. Hopefully, in this album Automaton Dreams, they’ll have a chance to vibe once again.
Next week we’ll return to our regularly scheduled video game remix albums. Thanks for checking out my personal project, and as always thanks for being a part of our email list.
